A Wende Bungalow bedroom furnished with a cozy vintage bed & dresser. The walls feature a neutral-toned floral wallpaper combined with wood paneling.

Set in the Zilker neighborhood, this 1936 bungalow had great potential with original details and finishes. Wood floors, trim, and windows were preserved, but the bungalow was in need of an update.

Scraps of vintage floral wallpaper were found throughout demolition. In a nod to the past, wallpaper was selected with a similar theme, but a more modern pattern.

In a Wende Bungalow bedroom, a built-in shelving unit holds a handful of books.

For decades, the original door and window locations were hidden by a layer of drywall. New built-in storage nooks fill the voids and bridge the gap in the original shiplap wall finish.

The bungalow’s exterior charm was retained by preserving original details and restoring materials, but with a new color palette.

The kitchen of Wende Bungalow features pale green cabinetry and warm wood countertops. In the center, a sink is full of warm-hued flowers.

The existing cabinets were sturdy and refreshed with a pop of mint green paint, while new oak butcher block counters complete the look. Here, kitchenware is a design element — it’s on display and accessible, but everything has its place.
